How do I become a member of the UNM IEEE student branch?
If you are a current registered member of IEEE and a UNM student, then you can automatically be considered a member of the student branch (there are NO additional branch membership fees involved). Click here for help on how to become a registered IEEE member.
Why should I join IEEE? (What are the advantages?)
You can use the "IEEE Global Benefits Finder" to discover all the advantages of joining. Highlights of membership include: publications, news, magazines, conferences, networking, scholarships, trainings, access to the largest library of electrical engineering, computer science, and electronics technical literature, and a community dedicated to professional development and technological advancement for the benefit of humankind.
When/where are the UNM IEEE Student Branch General Meetings?
This semester (Fall 2022) general meetings will be every other Tuesdays @ 5:30 pm in ECE 118 starting August 30. For the most up-to-date information on meetings be sure to sign up for our emailing list, join our Discord, and follow our Instagram.
What if I cannot attend the meetings?
If you are unable to attend the general meetings you can stay caught up with IEEE by signing up for our emailing list, reading the meeting notes uploaded on our website, and contacting our Officers for any questions.
How do I sign up for the emailing list?
Send an email to ieee@unm.edu stating that you would like to be added to the emailing list, or, be sure to sign in at our next general meeting and indicate on the sign-in sheet that you do not yet receive our emails.
What is Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) and how do I join?
HKN is the honor society of IEEE. Invitations to join are sent to high-achieving Juniors & Seniors based on their academic performance.
What is the IEEE Lounge?
The IEEE Lounge is a community space in the ECE building managed by the IEEE Student Branch. The lounge features a microwave, refrigerator/freezer, toaster, textbooks, and a large whiteboard, all available for student use.
How can I become an Officer of our student branch?
Branch officer elections are held in the Spring for each one of the officer positions (President, Vice President, HKN President, HKN Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Web Master). If you are not wanting a full commitment and/or want to spend more time learning about a position, assistantships are also available. Announcements regarding elections will be given several weeks in advance to the meeting where IEEE student members can nominate each other and vote for the new officers. Feel free to contact current officers with any questions about what each position's duties entail.
How do I rent a locker in the ECE Building?
Locker rentals are currently under the works. Email ieee@unm.edu specifying which type of locker you would like and the duration of the rental. See our "Lockers" page for pricing and additional information.
